Joelinton’s strike saw Newcastle United take all three points from the Tottenham Hotspur stadium as they stunned Mauricio Pochettino’s men 1-0 over the weekend. The warning signs were perhaps there for Spurs in both of their previous league games- Man City had dominated possession and stats last week, (but in a rather FIFAesque scoreline, Spurs somehow managed came away with a draw), and newly promoted Villa troubled them for 80 odd minutes before a late surge saw the Lilywhites take all three points in that fixture.
It’s a game most of the fans and indeed, the pundits got wrong. Yes Spurs weren’t at their fluent best, but surely they were good enough to put away Newcastle, who’ve now got Steve Bruce in the hot chair at St.James Park and were the laughing stock of many after Mike Ashley had effectively forced Champions League winning manager Rafa Benitez out of Tyneside over the summer?
Not only did Spurs lose, but they also failed to find the back of the net.
Easily the upset of the weekend (along with Crystal Palace’s win over United), and both Poch and OGS have some serious soul searching to do ahead of next weekend’s clash.
