The agent of Juventus centre back Daniel Rugani has said that Chelsea were very close to signing his client in the summer window. Davide Torchia made the revelation to RMC Sport radio, saying the Blues made a formal offer to the Bianconeri but his client chose not to leave Turin. The transfer fee was reportedly around the 50 million euro mark.
Rugani has found first team football hard to come by in Turin this season, but is contracted to Juve till 2021. The news that Maurizio Sarri wanted Rugani would not sound nice to the ears of Andreas Christensen, the Danish centre back who has threatened to leave the club if not granted more first team minutes. Christensen was a regular under Conte but has been reduced to collecting splinters off the bench, with Sarri preferring David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger as his first choice combo.
Apart from Christensen, the likes of Gary Cahill and even Danny Drinkwater may leave the club if their first team opportunities remain limited.
Chelsea are currently joint top of the league with Liverpool and Man City and will take on former boss Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United this weekend.
