Eric Dier scored the only goal of the game as Tottenham as the Lilywhites beat struggling Cardiff 1-0 at Wembley. The visitors had Joe Ralls sent off, a decision that left opposition manager Neil Warnock fuming and accusing Harry Kane of “trying to make an issue of it”
A disappointing crowd of 43,268, almost about half of the crowd that had attended the midweek Champions League game against Barcelona, saw Tottenham continue their impressive run against promoted sides thanks to Dier’s 8th minute strike. Cardiff have only picked up 2 points from their first 8 games and look set for the drop, although the likes of Newcastle, Huddersfield, Southampton and Fulham have all registered poor starts as well.
While the Lilywhites have managed to stay within striking distance of Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City, they were overtaken on goal difference by bitter rivals Arsenal, for whom Aaron Ramsey rounded off a superb team move. The 5-1 thrashing of the Cottagers by the Gunners took their goal difference to 9, one ahead of Spurs’ GD of 8. Both teams are two points off top spot.
Bournemouth stayed on Spurs’ heels with an impressive 4-0 demolition of Watford at Vicarage Road.
