The Premier League is back, with Manchester United against Leicester being the first clash of the 2018/19 season. The game is being played on Friday night at Old Trafford.
United away is probably not the way the Foxes would’ve wanted to start the new campaign. They’ve lost Riyad Mahrez in the summer to Man City and also had to fight off interest from United for star defender Harry Maguire, who was an ever present in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad.
United are also the team with the best record in the first game of a new Premier League season. They’ve won 17 of their 26 opening clashes, and the only team they’ve been beaten at home in the opening clash of a campaign was against Swansea in 2014. Since that loss to the Swans, United have gone on to beat Spurs (1-0 at home in 2015), Bournemouth (3-1 away in 2016) and West Ham (4-0 at home in 20917)
United also boast of an enviable record against Leicester– the Foxes have won only once at OT in the league, and that was back in the 1990’s.
A draw seems to be the Foxes’ best hope- a draw is what they also achieved the last time these two teams fought it out on the opening day of a league campaign
